For over 26 years, MHT Housing, Inc. has developed and operated over 50 affordable housing communities. Aside from having an exemplary track record for the condition and curb appeal of its properties, MHT is also an active supporter of the communities that the properties are located in. From a broad scale, the MHT team regularly partners with citizen and business organizations to sponsor activities such as: community cleanups, crime and safety education programs, health initiatives, and employment and community engagement/development activities.

How We Make An Impact

Community Clean-Ups

Throughout the year, employees of MHT and its management affiliates, Continental Management and MHT Management, volunteer to clean up vacant lots, neighborhoods, alleys and parks in areas surrounding their properties. MHT’s commitment to their properties and residents lasts far beyond construction and resyndication as the MHT is dedicated to the betterment of the neighborhood.

Employment Skills

Summer Workforce Program

MHT’s Summer Workforce Program is designed to benefit 14 to 18-year-old teens that live at many communities throughout the Detroit area and Benton Harbor. The program provides these youths valuable work experience and educational learning whilst helping the communities in which they live with landscaping, mulching, administrative work. In addition to being a paid internship, the interns also attend many different activities such as: a personal finance seminar, a self-defense class, Detroit Tigers games, tours of college campuses, weekly educational workshops, and volunteering through various community programs such as food banks and park cleans ups. The program won a national award in 2015 through the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM), illustrating its success in the national spotlight. This recently earned the “REME” (Real Estate Management Excellence) award and fuels the hopes for the continual growth of the program and the ability to impact more students’ lives.

Staying Home

Eviction Diversion Program

MHT and its management affiliates, Continental Management and MHT Management, along with Gromer PLLC, sought to create a program that could help residents, who had fallen under financial hardship, remain as tenants at the property. In the event that rent is unpaid, MHT and its affiliates look to collaboratively make a payment plan with the specified resident and assist them in finding additional public funding that can ease the financial burdens they are enduring. After seeing the success of the program, the Legal Aid and Defender Association Inc., Department of Human Services, and the Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency all have pledged support for the Eviction Diversion program as an overwhelmingly positive alternative to a standard eviction process. In the last two years alone, MHT has actively assisted more than 2,000 people through the Eviction Diversion program. This program truly embraces the overall meaning and reason for providing clean, affordable housing.
